Dear Member
One of the benefits of belonging to a club affiliated to UKA is the insurance cover which is provided by them both for the club and its members. Although, thankfully, rarely needed, a claim for public liability against an individual could amount to a considerable sum of money. However, we feel it is important to point out that this insurance applies only when training with the club or acting for the club. This is particularly relevant at this time when some members are considering continuing to run from SMCC following the change of headquarters. Details of the cover provided by UKA insurance can be found at http://www.britishathletics.org.uk/governance/insurance/ The specific paragraphs which apply are under General notes in the athlete policy and the club policy, "There is no cover provided to non-affiliated clubs, organisations, individual athletes or groups of athletes acting independently of their club." "There is no cover provided when athletes are training independently of their club (e.g. out for a run at night on their own causing injury to a member of the public)." If you have any questions with regard to this please do not hesitate to contact a committee member or UKA at [email protected] Regards, Barbara Bayliss, On behalf of the Swinton Runing Club Committee Committee Comments are closed.
