This Sunday see's the second race in this years Central Lancashire Grand Prix Series and also forms part of the Swinton Running Club Championships.
The Trotters 5 is organised by our good friends at Burnden Road Runners, lets try and get a good showing at the race.
Following the vote at the AGM to move to Swinton FC, a small minority of members are seeking to overturn that decision by questioning the committee's efforts in negotiating with SMCC. We wish to assure you that we have been seeking to act in the best interests of SRC to ensure a secure and viable future. We are of the view that a majority of those who voted, voted to retain existing fee levels and accepted that that would require a move to SFC.
There has been a request for us to meet again with SMCC and then hold an Extraordinary General Meeting; however the request does not state a clear purpose to hold an EGM, nor does it have the requisite signatures as required by the club constitution.
We informed SMCC on Monday that, given the vote at the AGM, we are not prepared to negotiate further and have given them seven days to put any further offer in writing if they so wish.
Some members have expressed concern about the conditions at SFC, in an attempt to allay those concerns members are welcome to visit the club on Saturday before 1 pm. We have received assurances from them with regards to the showers, in that they are the top of their list and would hope to start the work in the summer; they are in the process of securing funding and already have some of the materials. They have arranged for a local college to assist them in the refurbishment.
Any member of the committee will be happy to answer any queries or concerns that members may have about the move to SFC.
On behalf of the committee
Membership fees are now due for 2013/14. The form is available to download from the website.
Please note the increase in England Athletics registration fee to £10 which is payable for those members who intend to compete as an affiliated runner.
It would be helpful to me if anybody whose details have changed, address etc, would go to their info on EA's database and amend it there.
Swinton Running Club
The results of the ballot at the AGM showed 71% in favour of moving to Swinton Football Club. The breakdown of the votes are as follows :
A - 6 B - 2 C- 9
Vote in person
A- 11 B- 0 C - 38
Total vote 66
A- 17 B- 2 C - 47
This gives us a clear mandate to progress with the move to Swinton Football Club on 1st April 2013.
The committee have informed SMCC who responded with a reduction in fees from £4000 to £3600; as this would not alter the need to increase members fees, and therefore would not change the vote, the offer was rejected.
We are aware that some members have been informed directly by a member of SMCC that they are prepared to offer a revised fee of £3600. We would like to clarify that we were not aware of this proposal at the time of the AGM. A fee of this amount would still require an increase in membership fees or subs in the amounts proposed at the AGM. On the basis of last years income, a figure of £3600 would still have been more than 90% of our income. This figure does not include the charge for Calor gas of £200.
Negotiations commenced with SMCC in June 2012. They have consistently said that they want £4000 plus £200 for calor gas for the year 2013/14. They were due to have a meeting to discuss this again on 28/1/13 and then report back to us if they were prepared to make any changes. We did not hear from them so had to proceed with the AGM based on the figures above.
If there are any objections to the outcome of the ballot members need to respond in writing within 7 days. If there is an issue which requires an EGM there needs to be a written request stating the purpose of the meeting which is signed by at least 10 members. A copy of the constitution is available on the website should members wish to refer to this.
